Last year, the United Kingdom Gambling Commission began a revision of the Remote Gambling and Software Technical Standards (let’s call them RTS for short) – the requirements each online gambling organization should cover in order to receive a licence to operate in the UK. As a result, the UKGC has come up with a few propositions for changes and improvements to the technical standards for online gambling software. Before attempting to implement them, however, the UKGC has asked for the input of various stakeholders in the industry. Below, you can see some of the most interesting changes that the UKGC has come up with.
- Live dealer casinos no longer need to go through the usual UKGC audit if they have already been audited by another official gambling authority. However, if that is not the case, they need to contact a UKGC-approved testing house and undergo the standard testing procedure.
- Online gambling software should be able to provide players with the option to choose whether or not they will accept price fluctuations that happen once a bet has been placed. This should be included in the Account Settings or a similar place – like the betting slip, for example. Detailed information on the subject should also be available, so that the players are fully aware of what they are doing.
- Operators should clearly display the permitted third-party software on their websites, so that players can be aware of what apps and programs can be used to their disadvantage. Those software policies should be regularly updated and sent to players via email or other method of communication. In addition, if forbidden software is detected, the operators should have means to ensure that it is not used.
- When it comes to confiscated funds, the UKGC believes that players are not adequately informed about what will happen to their money. To fix that, operators should provide a detailed, yet brief description of their policy for confiscating funds. The policy is not expected to fully cover every possible scenario, but rather outline the main idea.
- Another of the UKGC’s suggestions is related to problem gambling. Players should be able to set up financial limits for their entire accounts, as opposed to being able to do that only for individual products. If the latter is concerned, players should be able to place restrictions on all games – not just a few select ones. Limits should be able to be set on a daily or weekly basis.
As you can see, the United Kingdom Gambling Commission is constantly taking steps towards improving the online casino experience. If you would like to see a full list of the UKGC’s suggestions, you can do it here. We hope you found this information useful. Have a great day!
